WeatherTech Racing sticks to Merc

WeatherTech Racing has made a slight change to their 2022 plans.

The team previous announced, that they would run the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with a Porsche 911 GT3 R throughout the full 2022 season.

They did however add a Mercedes-AMG GT3 for both the Daytona 24 Hours and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Common for both races, was that Cooper MacNeil raced both cars, joined by Porsche and Mercedes works drivers respectively.

The choice is now the Mercedes #97 for the rest of 2022. They currently sit 6th in the standings, while Porsche #79 are 8th, but only with a slight points advantage. Cooper however was assigned to scoring points in the Porsche, so he personally sits 8th in the driver’s championship.

MacNeil has a history of swapping and changing cars mid-season. A few years back, he raced both a Ferrari and a Mercedes throughout the season, in whatever had the better BOP at some of the rounds.

WeatherTech Racing is also entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Porsche 911 RSR GTE car, and there are no changes to that entry for now.
