Herta and Spengler in electric rookie test

Colton Herta and Bruno Spengler have received an early Christmas present from the MS & AD Andretti Formula E team.

The two have been selected for the rookie test that will be run in Marrakesh on 14 January.

The test will run on the day following the third round in this seasons FIA Formula E Championship, which is only eligible for drivers who haven’t yet participated in a Formula E race.

Colton Herta usually races in Indy Lights for the Andretti team, and has been born straight into the racing world. His dad, Bryan Herta, was a racing driver himself and has raced all over the world. He never made it to Formula 1, since he chose to go the American route instead, but young Colton has been to Europe for two seasons in Great Britain, before returning to the USA for the 2017 season, where he finished third in the Indy Lights Championship. He looks very likely to be a future IndyCar star – or perhaps Formula E, if his route goes electric.

Bruno Spengler is usually driving in the DTM for BMW. He won the series back in 2012 for BMW, but haven’t had much luck for the last few seasons, where he often has been beaten by his teammates. He grabbed one win, after a 4 year gap, at Norisring in 2017. That victory gave a lot of happiness in the team, and now he will get a test in a Formula E car for the BMW supported Andretti team.
