Spirit of Daytona misses Long Beach

Spirit of Daytona won’t be present at Long Beach, when Round 3 of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will be run.

The team with the cobalt blue coloured Cadillac DPi-V.R #90 had a big accident at Sebring, where Tristan Vautier put the car heavily into the wall with about 90 minutes left of the 12 hours.

After inspecting the car back at the workshop, the team has assessed the damage to be so heavy, that they have chosen to skip Long Beach.

The team got so few points at Daytona and Sebring, that any kind of Championship already is over. On top of that, the team knows very well that the concrete blocks can bite. Renger van der Zande had an accident last year, which actually made the chassis crack, so they had to buy a new one. So they wants to avoid that this year, instead of rushing the repairs – especially when the title fight already is over for the team.

Spirit of Daytona returns to the IMSA series when Round 4 is run at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on 6 May.
